My name is Spencer Julian.

I am a computer engineering student at Purdue University. I like to build things and make things work. My interests lie primarily in the realm of technology, specifically with microcontrollers and audio. However, I also have a bit of a soft spot for web development and design, and just hacking around on a computer to do something useful. Automating anything I can figure out how to automate is a big interest.

I'm a big fan of open source technology. I use linux on my home computer (Ubuntu, specifically), I have an android phone, my favorite microcontroller is the arduino (well, the atmega, but I like what arduino does with it), and I use XBMC to grab my entertainment content instead of watching basic cable.

These are some projects I've worked on.

Some of my cool software projects are available on my Github page, but here's a quick, incomplete, list of some things I've done (in semi-chronological order, or more accurately, the order I remember them):

Ongoing:

  • USB Data logger ASIC (for Purdue ECE 337, ASIC design)
  • XBMCVC - Voice Control for XBMC (original by kempniu)
  • Christmas Lights Display for my parent's house (synced with music)
  • This website!

Completed or On Hold:

  • Adalight (Phillips Ambilight clone, from a kit but with minor modifications)
  • TV-B-Gone SHP
  • Squelette Chip-Amp (from MAKE magazine)
  • Light Table (for ECE 362, Microcontrollers)
  • Purdue Linux Users' Group Library Record Keeper
  • Course Note Grabber (simple screen scraping)
  • PLUG USB Installer (installs a bootable linux distro onto a USB device)

This is my schedule.

Below is my google calendar. It is by no means complete, but it will give you a good idea of when I'm free.

This is my resume.

I'm currently working on recompiling my résumé with latex. When I'm done it'll be up here. Or maybe I'll just do it in html here...I don't know.

Here's how you can contact me.

Have some questions about my projects? Just want to say hi? Want to tell me what a horrible person I am (please don't)? Drop me a line! My email address is helloThere@spencerjulian.com, or you can try to contact me via a social network, though I'm not very reliable when it comes to such things. In fact, I'll probably ignore you unless you email me first, so be warned!
